Born in Havana. Cuba in 1968, Tania is an “artivist” and a graduate from the Superior Art Institute in Cuba (1992) and the Chicago Art Institute (2001). Her work explores the interrelation between art, activism and social change, departing from proposals which directly confront political power.
Among her work and projects are Institute for Artivism Hannah Arendt (2015-present), the International Immigrant Movement (2010-2015) and the Behavior Art Department (2002-2009). She has been awarded the the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, the Herp Alpert Award in the Arts, the Radcliffe Institute Fellowship and the Yale World Fellowship. Her work has been displayed at the Venice Biennale, the Documenta in Kassel, the Havana Biennial, Tate Modern and the Guggenheim among others.
