Moara Tumpinambá

Feminist indigenous narratives, identity affirmation and colonization are some of the recurrent themes in the work of visual artist and independent curator Moara Tumpinambá. Born in Belém in the state of Pará in 1983 and based in São Paulo, she held her first exhibition in 2015, with drawings, and today she moves through various languages: painting, photography, collage, video and installation. With Tupinambá origins on her mother’s side, the artist is currently investigating her paternal family roots, originating from a multiethnic community in the region of Santarém. Her research led to the audiovisual installation Museu da Silva, a work that deals, in her own words, with the “contemporary consequences of the violent processes of colonization.” The first part of the work was presented in São Paulo in 2019.
