Hunting retreat. Digital collage in only record of childhood (2019)
Gê Viana was born in 1986 in the village of Centro do Dete, in Santa Luzia (MA). She holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Maranhão. She lives on the periphery of São Luiz, a city whose walls she started to use as a backing for her photomontages, affixed as street posters, including the series Paridade (Parity, 2017) and Sapatona (Butch, 2018). Before embarking on her academic life, “seeking theoretical understanding of certain concepts,” Gê Viana was already immersed in the arts through urban interventions, graffiti and performances. Digital and analog photography form the basis of her collages and photomontages, triggering at once processes of performance and rituals recorded on video.
