Educator and curator Sandra Benites, of Guarani Nhandewa origin, is a doctoral student in Social Anthropology at the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She worked as an elementary school art teacher in the Guarani community in Aracruz (Espírito Santo) from 2004-2012, and was pedagogical coordinator at the Department of Education in Maricá (RJ), assisting indigenous schools. Her curation projects include Dja Guata Porã: Indigenous Rio de Janeiro, at the Rio Art Museum (2017/2018) and Sawé, organized for SESC Ipiranga (suspended due to the pandemic). Since 2020 she has been Adjunct Curator of Brazilian Art at the Museum of Art of São Paulo. Together with the museum’s staff, she is working on preparations for the “Indigenous Histories” exhibition, slated for 2023.
