Ana Beatriz Almeida

Ana Beatriz Almeida was born and brought up in Niterói, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in 1987. A performer and art researcher, she was the invited curator at the Glasgow International Art Biennale in 2020. Her academic and artistic work is focused on African events and those of the Diaspora. Trained in Textiles and Fashion at the University of São Paulo (USP), in 2011, it was during her master’s in Anthropology that she began the research that would influence her trajectory up to the present: the symbolic universe of the traditions of the death rights of the Our Lady’s Good Death Brotherhood and Baba Egun, in the Bahian Recônvavo region. In 2007, she joined a group of black artists and founded the 01.01 Art Platform, a space for study, residency and sustainable exchange of works by African and Afro-diasporic artists. In 2019, she started pursuing her PhD in Art at King’s College, in London. She lives between Niterói and São Paulo.
