Roberto Diago is one of the most acclaimed contemporary artists in Cuba. Born in 1971, he trained at the San Alejandro Academy in 1990 and now acts as consulting professor at the Superior Arts Institute (ISA) in Havana.
At the core of his work is the quotidian life and he uses the materials which each new day produce each new day and he covers in them a symbolic charge, an act of cultural resistance. His work reflects an interest in the legacy of the African cultural history brought to Cuba by slaves and how this culture is presented in Cuban society today. He has participated in the Venice Biennale and the International Contemporary Art Exhibition (FIAC) in Paris. His work is represented in collections in the US, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Monaco and Chile.
