The solo presentation features four installations, including new pieces that prompt reflection on our interconnectedness, challenging us to rethink societal links amidst a world in turmoil. Curated by Minia Biabiany, the architectural and transitional nature of (RE)COUTURE, urges viewers to contemplate the essence of our sky, earth, and shared connections.

(RE)COUTURE [(re)sewing] is a solo exhibition by transdisciplinary artivist Guy Gabon. Curated by Minia Biabiany and on display at Musarth in Point-á-Pitre, Guadeloupe, the show features a total of four installations. Two of which, namely Nous avons perdu le Nord suivons les Suds (We lost the North, Follow the South[s]) and Reliance, have previously been presented at the Clark University Art Museum in Atlanta, as part of Gabon’s BLACK OPTICS artistic residency (2018-2020). The works Lakou and Tissons were made insitu and presented for the first time.
The notion of (re)sewing the world’s disjointedness and the urgency of (re)weaving the bonds of a new humanity are the common threads running through this exhibition, which invites the public to reflect on a new society. In this sentiment, curator Minia Biabiany writes that:
With the thread towards awareness, Guy Gabon’s installations bring us back to the present. What is our sky and what is our earth? What binds us, connects us and inhabits us wherever we are? (RE)COUTURE is not only architectural: it becomes a transition between spaces of reflection and action, bringing together societal issues, our beating hearts and clear objectives in our world as it is today: torn, contaminated, in upheaval. (RE)COUTURE invites us to rethink the link between all of us – those responsible and those responding – and to read the space that inhabits and writes us. From our body-bridges, which perceive our active and acting worlds, we observe the scope of our gaze.
(RE)COUTURE is on display from December 14th 2023 through March 24th 2024
