Cecilia Vicuña is a poet, visual artist and filmmaker. She was born in Santiago de Chile in 1948 and has been in exile since the early 1970’s. She has been working in many different media-film/video, textiles, poetry and installation throughout her career. Specifically her creation of “precarious works” and quipu is a way of “hearing an ancient silence waiting to be heard”.
Her work has been exhibited internationally, in The Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Santiago, The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) London, The Whitney Museum, NYC and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), NYC.
She is a prolific writer and has published twenty-two books, the latest entitled Selected Poems (Kelsey Press, 2017).
