Clotilde Jiménez

Clotilde Jiménez is an Afro-Latino artist born in Honolulu in 1990. He received his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2013 and in 2018, he completed an MA in Painting at The Slade School of Fine Arts in London. Now he lives and works in Mexico DF. His work aims at offering greater representation of Black people and lives by means of questioning established ideas on race, class, sexuality and gender.

Jiménez’s practice is based in sketching daily from where ideas develop into collage, painting and sculpture. The technique and mediums function as a metaphor of fluid identity and gender performativity on themselves; particularly, the dynamism of drawing and collage allows him to build a composition that can be erased, drawn upon, and repeat, adding on layers of significance, in an attempt to unpick the themes he addresses, or of further enquiry.
