Índia Vanuíre Historical and Pedagogical Museum

The Índia Vanuíre Historical and Pedagogical Museum was founded in 1966, in the city of Tupã (SP). Its patroness, Vanuíre, is considered the great peacemaker of the conflicts between whites and Kaingang indigenous, in the western region of São Paulo state. The museum’s collection holds nearly 38 thousand historical and ethnographic pieces, which represent various Brazilian indigenous communities, such as the Kayapó, the Yanomámi, the Kaingang and the Krenak. The collection contains instruments used for hunting, household work and use as well as for other daily activities on indigenous lands, in addition to feather art, pottery and objects used in religious rituals. In addition to the collection’s permanent exhibition, the Museum offers free activities, such as lectures, temporary exhibitions, training courses, workshops, and cultural events.
