Created in 2012, this community museum aims to safeguard the memories of the residents of the Santa Lúcia Barragem/Morro do Papagaio communities. Its collection includes objects, installations, exhibitions, and various items that document the place’s history. Objects in the collection include photographs and moving images, musical instruments of the Guardas and traditional culture groups, biographical objects, items that belonged to mestres and institutions that left their mark on Morro, among others. Muquifu, which has been a point of reference for museum thought, proposes a new way of looking at the processes of musealization and safeguarding, and institutionalization in general. For residents of the Papagaio and Barragem communities, the museum is a place of representativeness, protagonism, and the strengthening of their history.
