Visual artist, filmmaker and curator. Born in Feira de Santana, Bahia in 1959. Lives and works in Salvador (Bahia). He began exhibiting his work in the mid- to late 1980s. From then on, he has put on several solo shows, including: Céu de chumbo, Blau Projects, São Paulo, 2015; Bicho Geográfico, Projeto Ocupa, Museu Palácio da Aclamação, Salvador, 2010; Sobre a Virgem: estratégias para a perda de sentido, Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, 2003. He has participated in several group shows, such as Incorporation: Afro-Brazilian Contemporary Art, Europalia-Brasil, Centrale for Contemporary Art, Brussels, Belgium, 2011-2012; Valencia Biennale, Convento del Carmen, Valencia, Spain, 2007; 29th Panorama of Brazilian Art, Museum of Modern Art, São Paulo, 2006. In his art, the artist emphasizes discussions about otherness, time, reality and fiction, approximations and distances between people, groups, and cultures, which appear in works such as Cabeças de açúcar, 2007, in which he forms heads of people of various ethnicities out of sugar.
