El cortometraje para la participación tiene que ser inédito, durar 3 minutos como máximo (sin contar los créditos), ser mudo (sin diálogos, aunque se acepta usarsonido directo, música y efectos de sonido de postproducción), y utilizar al menos uno de los siguientes trucajes de Méliès: truco de sustitución, truco de sobreimpresión o juegos de escala.
