The Munich-based non-profit Salta art, announces Gabriela Mureb and Diogo da Cruz as their 2023 residents.
In a press release, Salta Foundation, whose purpose is to strengthen ties between contemporary art actors in Germany and South America states that both artists were chosen after a rigorous selection process undertaken by Salta art’s committee members and representatives of the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich and Pivô. The activities of both residencies will be planned with Salta art’ partners Artist in Residence Munich: Ebenböckhaus (AIR-M Ebenböckhaus) and Pivô, and in conjunction with local art events in Munich and São Paulo.
Gabriela Mureb’s residency at AIR-M Ebenböckhaus is for a South American artist and is a collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich. The residency runs from July 6 – September 27, 2023 in Munich.
Mureb’s work deals primarily with the appropriation of industrial parts to produce works situated between sculpture, installation, performance and sound. She is interested in how machines inherently carry, in their shape and movement, information about the context and bodies that produce them. Thus, making viewers aware of the political implications of their invention, production and use. Mureb is based in Rio de Janeiro.
Diogo da Cruz’s residency in São Paulo, Brazil is for a Munich-based artist and is a collaboration with Pivô Research in São Paulo, Brazil. The residency runs from August 14 to November 2023.
Da Cruz produces partially fictitious narratives based on scientific findings that refer to past, present or future socio-political scenarios. Taking its form as installation, sculpture or video work, his practice relies on the power of speculation and mythology to re-activate and reinvent new histories and geographical spaces. Diogo da Cruz lives and works in Munich.
Artist in Residence Munich: Ebenböckhaus Artist in Residence Munich, the residency programme of the City of Munich in Villa Waldberta and Ebenböckhaus, offers international artists, curators and academic a temporary home. During their stay, rersidents have the time, space and financial support to network with the local cultural scene and present their work to the public.
Pivô The residency program of Pivô, Pivô Research provides an active meeting point foran international and emerging art scene in São Paulo. The residency is divided into three cycles per year, each lasting 12 weeks and receiving up to nine artists per cycle.
Salta art The initiative aims to establish cultural relations between the two regions through reciprocal residencies between Germany and South America for artists and curators, talks, performances, exhibitions and research. Its name, Salta, refers to the support given to artists and curators to take a “leap” in new directions.
