We are thrilled to announce that the Terra Foundation for American Arts is funding C& Critical Writing Workshops in Atlanta and Dallas in 2023! Participants from the two workshops will have the opportunity to join the subsequent C& Mentoring Program.
C& has been facilitating writing workshops for young art writers since 2016. So far workshops have taken place in Lagos, Nairobi, Lubumbashi, Harare, Luanda, and Detroit. The idea for these three-day workshops is to discuss critical art writing practices and the challenges young writers are facing in their respective contexts. Local and international senior writers act as instructors and enable the participants to expand their networks.
The C& Mentoring Program invites selected workshop participants to continue working with the tutors. Over the course of half a year the mentees produce one text per month, which they submit to and work through with their mentor online. The objective is to support the young art critics in developing their experiences and skills in a sustainable way. They receive a small stipend and the possibility of publishing selected texts in C& Magazine and C& América Latina Magazine.
The two upcoming workshops in the US will take place in Atlanta and Dallas, two cities in the US heartland, with the aim of particularly supporting the art scenes of communities with a specific connection with the content and mission of C&.
