Contemporary And (C&), Centro Cultural BanReservas and Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) invite emerging art writers based and working in the Dominican Republic to participate in a three-day Critical Writing Workshop led by Diego del Valle Ríos and Luis Graham Castillo; with Yina Jiménez Suriel as part of the C& editorial team. It will take place at Sala de Posgrado of the faculty building of the Facultad de Artes in UASD, Santo Domingo from 19 –21 September 2024.

Diego del Valle Ríos is an editor, cultural facilitator, and independent writer. His interests are related to writing around artistic and curatorial practices that are unruly to hegemonic narratives and face omissions in the contemporary art systems within the “American” continent. He has 5 years of editorial experience backed by his work as editor-in-chief of Terremoto magazine (2014 – 2021) a platform dedicated to the dissemination of critical thinking around contemporary art in “the Americas.” Currently he works as editor in Arteinformado, a Spanish-language media outlet to be launched in fall 2024 that reports news and critical thinking on art in Spain, Portugal and Latin America. He is also part of the editorial team of 333 an independent magazine on art criticism in México City.
Luis Graham Castillo, communicator, cultural manager and art curator. His practice in cultural production seeks to create spaces for conversation and make visible counter-hegemonic ways of approaching subjectivities. He lives and works in Santo Domingo, where he collaborates with various institutions, teaches and succumbs to the poetic.
Yina Jiménez Suriel, curator and researcher with a master’s degree in visual studies. Her curatorial practice is nourished by the transdisciplinary research she develops around the construction of imagination, contemporary emancipatory processes and reconciliation with the constant movement titled la historia de las montañas. She is adjunct curator of the 14th Mercosul Biennial (2025). She is the curator of The Current IV (2023-2025) by TBA21-Academy with the research project entitled otras montañas, las que andan sueltas bajo el agua. Yina is associate editor of Contemporary And (C&) magazine for Latin America and the Caribbean. Her curatorial projects include Vehículos. Una revisión (2018) at Casa Quien (Dominican Republic); one month after being known in that island (2020) at the Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger (Switzerland) curated with the artist Pablo Guardiola and co-produced by Caribbean Art Initiative; the first and second iteration of the research project de montañas submarinas el fuego hace islas, those iterations took place, the first one between Pivô (Brazil) and Cinemateca Dominicana (Dominican Republic) co-produced with KADIST in 2022 and the second between KADIST San Francisco (United States), Delfina Foundation (United Kingdom) and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) Manila (Philippines) in 2023-2024. She was invited to the Delfina Foundation residency program for the 2022 Summer Season. She has contributed to various international art publications and artist catalogs. Yina lives and works from Santiago, Dominican Republic.

A maximum of 15 applicants will be accepted. The workshop will provide lodging and per diem for those participants from provinces outside of Santo Domingo, as required. The workshop will provide stipend for transportation for those participants from the province of Santo Domingo, as required.
