Artist-in-Residence

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE MUNICH, Ebenböckhaus, and Salta art are offering a residency for one contemporary visual artist from South America from July 7th to September 29th, 2025. The artist-in-residence will live and work at Ebenböckhaus in Munich, Germany.

Ebenböckhaus (City of Munich)

The Ebenböckhaus is in the center of the district of Munich-Pasing and is well connected in terms of transport and utilities. There is a large apartment for up to three artists at a time, with separate living / sleeping rooms (fitted with locks), a shared kitchen, and bathroom / WC and three rooms (52 m²) for work and public presentation opportunities. In coordination with other users – two archives and cultural associations in the neighborhood – the foyer on the ground floor / the passage room to the park and the park belonging to the house can also be used for events. (Photos: www.air-m.de/gallery). An open studio is organized at the end of the residency session at the Ebenböckhaus. This is an opportunity for the residents to present their ongoing research to art professionals and the public and to create a direct connection with audiences. The Ebenböckhaus is not barrier-free.

Salta art offers a shared studio workspace at Empfangshalle, located in the heart of the Kreativquartier in Munich.

Additionally, the artist can benefit from a MakerPlus membership by MakerSpace Munich. MakerSpace is a collaborative workshop in Munich, where people come together to create using tools such as 3D printers and electronics. It’s a shared space for innovators, artists, and entrepreneurs to work on projects, learn from each other and participate in workshops and events.

Salta art

Salta art is a non-profit arts organization that aims to promote artistic exchange between South America and the city and region of Munich. This is achieved through artist residencies, conferences, performances, workshops, publications, exhibitions and public events in Munich.

The cultural exchange, in which Salta art is partnering with the City of Munich and local arts institutions, will open new doors for the contemporary art scene in Munich and help strengthen international relationships among artists, curators, other professionals working in the arts, and art enthusiasts. We are confident that this program will generate and help implement fresh ideas and enrich the cultural scene of Munich in the long term, creating potential synergies for future endeavours.

Remuneration

The residency holder receives a monthly stipend of € 1200 from the City of Munich as part of the residency program. The accommodation is rent-free and the costs for monthly public transport tickets are reimbursed. Travel costs from South America to Munich and back will be covered by Salta art (economy / 2nd class). For additional readings, workshops, seminars, or research trips the residency holder will be reimbursed for their expenses and receive an honorarium by Salta art.

Application requirements

• People who have already held a residency at Villa Waldberta or Ebenböckhaus are not eligible.
• Candidates will not receive any special considerations for pre-existing associations with Salta art, the City of Munich or other organizers.
• The applicant must be based or residing in South America, of any religion, sexual identity, age group and social background.
• There is no age limit, but the exchange is not intended for students or artists at the very beginning of their careers. The residency is aimed at candidates who have already achieved some professional recognition – such as exhibitions, reviews, works included in collections, or awards – but are still actively developing and expanding their body of work.
• The application is for individuals who are pursuing visual arts as their primary professional activity.
• Candidate artists for the residency may work in any field of art, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, video, digital art, and performance, or a combination of media.
• A good level of spoken English is required.
• Third parties can’t apply on behalf of a candidate.
• Only applications that fulfill all requirements and include all documents will be considered.
• The candidate must meet all contractual obligations required by the City of Munich, which operates the Ebenböckhaus Residency. The selected candidate will sign two separate contracts: one with the City of Munich and another with Salta art.
• The application forms must be completed in English.

We kindly ask you to send the following documents by 16 February 2025, midnight (Central European Time):

1. Personal Information (Name, Artistic Name, Email, Nationality, Address, Phone).
2. Name and contact information of one referee (no letter required).
3. Biography (max. 200 words).
4. Detailed CV (4 pages max).
5. Letter of intent (min. 200 words).
6. Introduction and description of your practice (max. 500 words).
7. Samples of work: portfolio, link to exhibitions, projects, or/and writing.

The documents (in total) should not exceed 20 pages and 10 MB. Please submit them all to info[at]saltaart.org.

Selection

We will inform you about the success of your application latest by March 15th, 2025.

The scholarship will be decided by the City of Munich, Department of Arts and Culture, on the recommendation of the Salta art jury.

The Salta art jury is composed of:

• Amanda Carneiro, Artistic Organizer of the 60th Biennale di Venezia in 2024 and Curator at Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP).
• Prof. Dr. Chus Martínez, Head of the Institute Art Gender Nature and Ewha (Womans University Seoul) Global Fellow.
• Anna Schneider, Curator at Haus der Kunst München and starting as the new director at DAS MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam.
