The registrations for the 2024 Artistic Residency Program at Sertão Negro Ateliê and School of Arts are open until December 15. The program, conceived by Dalton Paula and Ceiça Ferreira, aims to create a dialogue between the visual arts, the environment, and traditional knowledge, offers five places: one international, two national, and two local.
The Sertão Negro Ateliê and Escola de Artes program, a quilombo, an artistic-cultural space for experiences and exchanges with the environment, seeks to stimulate connections between quilombola communities and artists, exploring processes of investigation, practice and artistic poetics in the most diverse media, pictorial components and artistic expressions.
The residency, scheduled to take place between May and September 2024 in national and international categories, will last for four weeks. The first week is dedicated to an experience in a quilombo in the state of Goiás, followed by three weeks in Sertão Negro, located in the Shangri-lá neighborhood in the northern region of Goiânia, the capital of the state of Goiás. During these three weeks, resident artists (both national and international) will have access to individual chalet accommodations and meals; they will also receive a subsidy of $1,500 plus the cost of the airfare.
The two places for the local residency, which also includes the experience in the quilombola community, have a duration of 12 months and are intended for artists or residents of Goiás. For this purpose, Sertão Negro provides structure, resources, and guidance to facilitate training and improvement in contemporary art. Scheduled to start in May 2024, this residency category offers a monthly stipend of two thousand Brazilian reais.
