Curated by Sandra Benites, Flavya Mutran, Keyna Eleison and Vânia Leal, the biennial is entitled Bubuia: Waters as a Source of Imaginations and Desires, and highlights the cultural and artistic plurality of one of the world’s richest biomes in biodiversity.

The Bienal das Amazônias is an unprecedented project that brings together nine countries, as well as several Brazilian states, and focuses on the identity and culture manifested through the contemporary art of Amazonian peoples. Located in a former office building in the center of the capital of Pará, the exhibition seeks to break with the “usual” ways of making art, giving consideration to methods, aesthetics, materials, spaces and narratives from around the Amazon region. Contemporary expressions from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana and Brazil make up the exhibition, which has free entry.
