Ojos Caribe announces its 4th edition during Miami Art Week 2023, hosted by Homework Gallery in Miami Little River, 7338 NW Miami Ct, on Thursday, December 7th, starting at 6:00 pm. This curatorial initiative spotlights the convergence of insular aesthetics within short films and video art, exploring themes of resistance, community struggles, and diverse connections with our lands.
This year’s chapter of Ojos Caribe will delve into the documentation of spaces resisting hegemonic systems, empires, and colonial norms. By championing humanism and amplifying the narratives of dissident communities, we aim to shed light on various ways of connecting with our surroundings, fostering support for human rights and pluricultural identities, especially in the face of oppression that can currently be witnessed, perpetuated towards communities in regions such as Palestine, Congo, and Haiti.
The curated selection of short films and video art pieces aims to reflect this ethos, showcasing works that embody the spirit of resilience, activism, and cultural richness. The lineup includes thought-provoking pieces from the following creators:
