Amid diverse cultural and social contexts, a shared space of understanding, aspirations, and connections exists, binding humanity. Exploring these points of intersection and fostering collaboration toward a more equitable and sustainable future serve as guiding principles. As the Havana Biennial celebrates its four decades, it continues to embody this vision, advancing initiatives that connect diverse perspectives and encourage collective growth, reflection, and innovation in pursuit of peace and harmony between humanity and nature.
This edition, which also celebrates the Biennial’s 40th anniversary, focuses on analyzing the Biennial’s trajectory, revisiting its core themes, and highlighting the evolving nuances that have shaped its identity. Central to the event is the spirit of Cuba—its people, who demonstrate daily dedication to values such as solidarity and dignity, and the creative energy of artists and non-artists alike. The event seeks to showcase the network of relationships enabling its growth and to underline the collective and collaborative efforts that drive it forward.
The Biennial aspires to create an inclusive and affective network, valuing differences and embracing alternative knowledge and ways of existence that challenge dominant paradigms. Emphasis will be placed on projects that transcend disciplinary boundaries and engage with all strata of society, fostering actions that bridge societal and cultural divides. Strengthening collective efforts to achieve shared goals is a primary focus.
In this edition, the Biennial aims to transcend traditional gallery and exhibition spaces. Artists are encouraged to immerse themselves in the lived experiences of Cuba’s communities, working collaboratively with residents to develop projects that promote deeper connections and mutual understanding.
This initiative invites all participants to journey together, sharing the horizon and the challenges of the path toward a collective utopia that, while perhaps unattainable, inspires efforts toward greater empathy, cooperation, and a commitment to the common good.
