After New York and Amsterdam, Dak’Art 2024 completes a full-circle journey the collaborative piece.
More about the performance:
His first venture into dance, Creuzet draws on a collection of movements by online content creators of African descent. The movements, gathered by the artist from social media over the years, unveil unexpected, yet intimate connections between steps that exist in different times and geographies across the Black Atlantic.
The moves are inspired by Creuzet’s personal archive of gestures and dances amassed online, revealing unexpected similarities between steps, such as Sudanese clerics moving in squatting positions during a ceremony and American teenagers duck-walking in the aisles of a supermarket. In his performance, Creuzet weaves his collection of gestures into an enchanting tapestry of movement.
Algorithm ocean true blood moves is performed to the vibrations of Shatta, a new genre of electronic Caribbean dancehall music from Martinique. And features talented young dancers from the Ailey School, founded by Alvin Ailey, an influential African-American choreographer and activist who celebrated Black cultural heritage in his work.
