Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) is announces the first open call for its Artist-in-Residence Program. Established in 2020, the residency provides a transformative, month-long opportunity for emerging and mid-career women and non-binary artists working with lens-based media to develop their creative practice within Miami’s dynamic cultural landscape.
This transition from a nomination-based selection process to an open call is made possible through a $100,000 grant from the Pérez CreARTE Grant Program, allowing WOPHA to build a more robust infrastructure, increase artist honoraria, and expand accessibility to the initiative.
Residency Evolution and Impact
The WOPHA Artist-in-Residence Program was launched in 2020 during the pandemic as part of WOPHA’s vision to serve as a meeting place for the international photography community. In partnership with Miami’s leading cultural institutions, the program fosters artistic exchange, provides artists with a dedicated space for creativity and self-care, and amplifies the diverse artistic production of artists from the African diaspora, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Latinx communities.

About WOPHA
Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by Latinx art historian and curator Aldeide Delgado to research, promote, support, and educate on the role of those who identify as women and non-binary in photography. The organization’s vision is to foster a more diverse and equitable world by providing a permanent archive for future generations that preserves, documents, and promotes women photographers’ work while being a driving force for innovative thinking and discussion about the role of women in photographic arts. Over the past six years, WOPHA has transformed Miami into a meeting place for the international photography community through its exhibitions, educational programs, research, and archival initiatives. The organization has curated groundbreaking exhibitions, hosted international conferences—including the WOPHA Congress—and built a robust network of artists, curators, and leading institutions from around the world.
